Reports that the Chinese government is involved in the spread of terrorist operations in Nigeria have been refuted by the Chinese government.
The remark was made in response to a revelation made by the British daily The Times, which stated that employees of the Chinese mining industry were allegedly funding terrorist organizations in some regions of Nigeria in order to obtain access to the country’s mineral resources.
The Times claims to have sent its research to a team in Lagos for analysis.
China, however, disputed the claims and referred to the reporting as “irresponsible” in a statement released on Monday by its embassy in Abuja via its Twitter account.
The Chinese Embassy in the United States stated, “Our attention has been attracted to a media report headlined “Chinese ‘bribed Nigerian terrorists for access to massive mineral deposits”, published by the The Times of the U.K. on April 15, 2023.
We must voice our severe displeasure and protest to this report, which asserts that “Beijing could be indirectly funding terror” in Nigeria and is based on unreliable, hazy, and unsubstantiated material.
