The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo published the medical report that confirmed the death of the Nacional player.
South American and world football is in shock. At the age of 27, Juan Izquierdo, a soccer player for Nacional de Montevideo, died after having been hospitalized in Sao Paulo after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia and a consequent cardiac arrest.
The news that no one wanted to give came last Tuesday night communicated by the Uruguayan club itself. The previous medical reports were not encouraging at all and confirmed that Izquierdo’s health was in a critical state. Unfortunately, at 10:33 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, Nacional expressed his death.
From Sao Paulo, where the Uruguayan player had been hospitalized for 5 days, the hospital published a medical report confirming the cause of Juan Izquierdo’s death. “The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein informs, with regret, of the death of Mr. Juan Manuel Izquierdo, which occurred this Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 9:38 pm, due to brain death after a cardiorespiratory arrest associated with cardiac arrhythmia,” they said in a statement from the hospital institution in Brazil.
At 27 years old, Juan Izquierdo died after fighting for his life for 5 days in intensive care, after collapsing due to an arrhythmia in the Copa Libertadores match between Sao Paulo and Nacional, at the Morumbí stadium. The soccer world mourns the loss of the Uruguayan player.
Nacional’s statement
“With the deepest pain and impact in our hearts, the National Football Club communicates the death of our beloved player Juan Izquierdo. We express our sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and relatives. All of Nacional is mourning his irreparable loss. RIP Juan, you will be with us forever,” Nacional announced on its networks.
Cardiac arrhythmia is a condition that causes the heartbeat to occur irregularly. In the case of Juan Izquierdo, this heart condition ended up being fatal.
The reasons that cause an arrhythmia are diverse. These include the existence of pre-existing heart disease, electrolyte imbalances in the body, the use of stimulant substances, or excessive physical and emotional stress.
In this specific case of the Uruguayan player, the arrhythmia led to an irreversible neurological condition and cardiorespiratory arrest. The reasons why he suffered from this heart condition are unknown. RIP
The central defender was facing his second cycle with the Nacional shirt, but he had an extensive career in Uruguayan football. He made his debut in Cerro, went through Peñarol and also represented Montevideo Wanderers and Liverpool. In between, he played for Atlético San Luis in Mexico.
