This is not Lifejacket

Another deadly mistake I see boat cruisers do is wearing this and believing it to be a Lifejacket. Please for your life’s sake, this is not a life saving jacket. This is called a WORK VEST. It is not to be worn on a boat cruise because it will not save your life in the event of a boat mishap.

This is designed for Sea workers only. It has a very limited floating time of which rescue is expected to arrive and save the worker.

Let me explain further, if a worker is working on an offshore platform for instance or a ship and falls overboard into the sea, there are always standby colleagues who will immediately throw in a Life ring to help the worker to float while an alarm is sounded for a Man-overboard rescue process to begin. In less than 15 minutes such a worker would have been pulled out of the water. However, in a boat mishap rescue could take hours or sometimes days and so a Work Vest CANNOT float for that long.

WORK VESTS are also only effective if the wearer has at least some basic knowledge of swimming hence making it more suitable for swimmers not non swimmers.

Next time you go to board that boat from Oron to Calabar please do well to remember the difference between a life jacket and that workvest they normally give you to wear. You will still die if something happens.
