Real Madrid send tough message to Arsenal after Declan Rice humbling in London
Arsenal produced one of their best performances in recent times as they thrashed Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
The Gunners were imperious from start to finish, putting the record European champions on the sword in slick fashion in front of their home fans.
Thibaut Courtois had frustrated Mikel Arteta’s side with a string of incredible stops, but the Belgian could do nothing about two impeccable free-kicks from Declan Rice.
The Englishman bent in two beautiful curlers with Mikel Merino adding a third to give the Gunners a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the second leg next week.
However, those who have been watching football for long enough know that with Real Madrid, no lead is too comfortable. Los Blancos have conjured some amazing comebacks in the Champions League over the years.
Given their poor performance in North London and Arteta’s expected shrewdness next week, one might think that it would be difficult for them to overturn this time.
But they don’t think so.
After the game, the club’s official channel Real Madrid TV sent a stern warning to Arsenal, setting up the stage for a mouthwatering encounter next week.
“90 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu is a very long time. It’s time to remember that.”
Can Real Madrid turn this around?
