NYSC Cancels 101 Certificates of UNICAL Graduates, Gives Reason

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has annulled the certificates of 101 individuals fraudulently mobilized for national service by the University of Calabar (UNICAL). The affected certificates, issued to individuals during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years, have been invalidated immediately.

NYSC described this action as a significant effort to combat certificate fraud and ensure the credibility of the national service program. Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, stated that the move is crucial for maintaining the program’s integrity and preventing unqualified individuals from participating.

The NYSC has issued a warning that it will continue to take decisive action against any individuals or institutions involved in fraudulent mobilization. The organization advises the public, including corps employers, government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), corporate and religious organizations, multinational companies, and corps-producing institutions, to verify the authenticity of certificates presented to them.

To avoid accepting or employing fraudulent corps members, the NYSC encourages the public to confirm the authenticity of certificates at the NYSC national directorate headquarters in Abuja. The NYSC management has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals receive certificates of national service.

Stakeholders are urged to take note of this announcement and verify the authenticity of certificates, exemption letters, and exclusion letters being presented for any purpose.
