Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has called for a lasting solution to the challenges of human trafficking in the country.

Dabiri-Erewa spoke on Monday when she visited the Nigerian teenage girls trafficked for prostitution in Ghana.

On Friday, some videos surfaced on X showing 10 teenage girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.

The girls, who were between the ages of 15 and 18, were intercepted by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in Ghana.

Reacting to the development, Uju Kennedy, minister of women affairs, issued a directive prohibitingunderage girls from lodging in hotels.

Giving an update on the development, the NiDCOM chairperson said the suspected trafficker has been arrested, adding that a collective effort is needed to apprehend perpetrators of human trafficking.

“We must declare a war against human traffickers,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

She said the girls would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

She said they would later be transferred to their states for counseling and rehabilitation.

Dabiri-Erewa added that the high echelon of the Ghanaian police has promised to support Nigeria in the fight against human trafficking.
