Lessons from Vera Anyim – Your Disappointment May Be an Instrument for Your Blessings

“Disappointment can be a blessing in disguise. It often leads us to something better than what we had originally hoped for,” so declared Gabriel Marquez. To Brené Brown, “Disappointment is a powerful teacher.

It reminds us to reassess our expectations and find strength in resilience.” Today, let’s reflect on disappointment as a blessing in disguise.

Do you typically feel angry and bitter when things don’t go as you expect? Do you recognize that what manifests as a disappointment can actually be an instrument of open door, promotion, empowerment etc? A look at the unplanned drama that ensued during Vera Anyim’s testimony in Dunamis church is a typical example. It’s likely that Vera would not have chosen to testify had she the fore-knowledege she would be accused of lying. However, with the disappointing turn of events during the testimony, she got free adverts in social and print media. Her message of resilience, courage and perseverance got publicised beyond the walls of the church. She’s become a celebrity with lots of offers – financial, social, educational, property etc – based on news reports. Prophetic Benjamin forsaw this: “Anyim Vera, this is a global announcement for you not a global shame, relax and see what God will do.” Amako Onyeka noted: “Don’t accommodate pity, you broke barriers and protocols. I am proud of you, this is the best time to excel and be known. Your name will ring a bell in the country, make sure you never leave God. Everything happens for a reason…” Zully Suleiman said, “Everything is working together for your good.” God-oracle Roseline sounded prophetic: “I see this as open door for the innocent young lady, mark my words this will be her year of announcement, I saw an ancient veil that covered this lady but now it is off.”

So, as much as you don’t pray for disappointment, if and/or when it comes, see it from the angle of advantage. Thich Hanh counselled, “When disappointment knocks on your door, greet it with gratitude, for it reveals the gaps that need to be filled in order to grow.” Remember, as Blinkist Magazine noted that “Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, and sometimes, we find ourselves facing disappointments that can leave us feeling defeated. However, it is during these moments that we must remember our inner strength and resilience.” Rather than resort to endless lamentations of “Why me, why me?” when the unexpected happens, Paulo Coelho reminded that “Disappointment is a sign that you are growing and evolving. Embrace it, for it is an essential part of the journey towards self-discovery.”
As you step out today, pray for things to work as planned. However, if they don’t, listen to Michelle Obama’s counsel: “Disappointment is a stepping stone to resilience. It toughens you up and prepares you for the challenges that lie ahead.” Remind yourself of Eckhart Tolle message: “Disappointment is a reminder that life doesn’t always go as planned. Embrace the uncertainty, for it is what makes the journey worthwhile.”
