Nigerian chess master and Chess in Slum Africa founder Tunde Onakoya has raised over N131 million in his Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Tunde Onakoya, who played non stop chess game undefeated, smashed the record of 56 hours and 9 minutes set in 2018 by Norwegian duo, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, when he clocked 60 hours on Saturday, April 21, 2024.
The 29-year-old guru had the support of Shawn Martinez, the United States national chess master, who stood as his opponent throughout his world record-breaking quest at Times Square in New York City.
Tunde Onakoya and Shawn Martinez attempted to set a new record for the longest chess marathon, playing for an impressive 60 hours straight.
While Guinness World Record is yet to confirm the attempt, this feat has already earned them admiration from the chess world.
The marathon aimed to raise $1 million (roughly N1 billion) for Chess in Slums Africa. Tunde took to social media to share their endeavor, and he urged supporters to continue contributing to the cause.
In recent development, it was reported that he has received over N131 million donations.
