Natacha Akide, also known as Tacha, a reality TV personality and entrepreneur, has resorted to social media to express her displeasure with Twitter’s removal of her verification badge.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk previously indicated that the social media platform would begin removing verified blue ticks from the accounts of most public people, including celebrities, journalists, professional athletes, and politicians, on Thursday.
Verification badges are awarded to accounts that are regarded to be of public importance or have a big following on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
The blue badge is a mark of authenticity and reliability, allowing legitimate accounts to be distinguished from fraudulent or mimicking accounts.
Twitter just revealed that its verification badge, ‘Twitter Blue,’ is now subscription-based. Accounts that want to keep the badge must pay $8 each month.
Many checkmarks vanished from Twitter accounts of users who did not pay the membership price for the conventional blue badge.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy, Olamide, and Tiwa Savage, all of whom have millions of followers, have lost their badges for failing to subscribe to Twitter Blue.
Former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha, who was also affected by the development, took to her page to lament, noting that she is nothing without the blue tick.
In an audio recording shared on the microblogging platform, she pleaded with Twitter CEO Elon Musk to restore her verification badge.
