Super Eagles Forward Ademola Lookman Wins Best African International Footballer Award
Ademola Lookman, the dynamic forward for the Super Eagles, has been named the ‘Best African International Footballer’ at the Ghana Football Awards. This recognition comes after his outstanding performances for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire and his exceptional contributions to Serie A club Atalanta.
The 20-year-old striker was instrumental in Nigeria’s successful campaign at AFCON, scoring three goals in seven matches and helping his team secure a silver medal. Lookman’s club season was equally impressive, punctuated by a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final, contributing significantly to the team’s victory.
Lookman edged out fellow nominees, Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Burkinabe sensation Edmund Tapsoba, to clinch the prestigious award. His remarkable form has not only been central to his team’s successes but has also sparked interest from top European clubs, including those in Saudi Arabia.
The awards ceremony also highlighted the achievements of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United. The Ghanaian international took home two honors: Ghana Player of the Year and an award for the best goal of the night, which he scored against Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League.
