Sanwo-Olu unveils #EndSARS White Paper, approves 11 recommendations

Under the leadership of governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Government has released the White Paper on the #EndSARS Panel of Inquiry Report.

In the report, the state government says of the 32 recommendations by the panel, it accepts 11, accepts 6 modifications, rejects one.

The document also says 14 of the recommendations fall outside the powers of Lagos state and will be forwarded to the Federal Government for consideration.

Meanwhile, Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, son of Afro-beat legend, Fela, has also rejected the invite by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to a peace walk for “the healing of Lagos” in December.

The activist and singer insisted that the governor must ensure justice is served for victims of police brutality before peace walk.

“I wants peace after justice,” he said on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme monitored by TopNaija.

“I don’t need to walk next to the governor before there is peace in Lagos; there has been peace in Lagos before many years and nobody have to walk anywhere for it.

“If there is justice, then we can discuss peace. In fact, there will be no need to walk for peace because justice itself is the walk of peace. The governor should walk the walk he is talking about by giving us justice.”

The governor in a speech on Tuesday on the Lekki shootings of October 20, 2020, had said, “In December, I will be leading A WALK FOR PEACE to herald the healing of our land. Let me use this occasion to extend an open invitation to our youths, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society groups, students and the media as well as other stakeholders to join me.”

EndSARS is a decentralized social movement, and series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria. The slogan calls for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police with a long record of abuses.
