‘Extraction 2’: When will Chris Hemsworth’s film arrive on Netflix? Here are all the details

Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role of Tyler Rake in Extraction 2. Because “Extraction” has been one of Netflix’s most triumphant original movies, it is not astonishing that a follow-up is being developed. The movie was streamed by more than 99 million households, surpassing other successful Netflix productions like “Bird Box,” “Murder Mystery,” and “6 Underground.” The sequel is being directed by Sam Hargrave, with the Russo Brothers serving as executive producers. However, only Joe Russo is acknowledged for writing the story.

The filming of “Extraction 2” was initially planned to take place in Sydney, Australia, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, the production was relocated to Prague, Czech Republic. In late November 2021, Chris Hemsworth shared on his Instagram account that filming was about to commence.

By March 19th, 2022, the filming of “Extraction 2” had concluded, and the movie had entered the post-production phase. During Netflix’s latest TUDUM event on September 24th, the streaming platform unveiled some remarkable behind-the-scenes footage of the upcoming movie.

According to The Prague Reporter, “Extraction 2” underwent some reshoots in Prague, which were completed over a short period of a few weeks. Chris Hemsworth confirmed the wrap-up of the reshoots through a social media post ..

Extraction 2 is bringing Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake back to Netflix this year, and we don’t have much longer to wait for the action adventure sequel.

The first movie remains in the top ten most-watched Netflix movies of all time, currently ranked sixth with 231.34 million hours watched in its first 28 days. It’s no surprise that Netflix confirmed a sequel shortly after its release, even if we’ve had to wait a while.

Behind the scenes, Sam Hargrave and Joe Russo returned to direct and write, respectively, and Hemsworth will be back too. The first movie ended with Tyler Rake’s fate unclear, but a teaser in September 2021 confirmed the obvious: #RakeLives.

But what can we expect from his return? Here’s everything you need to know about Extraction 2.

Extraction 2 release date: When can we expect Extraction 2 on Netflix?

The sequel was filmed from November 2021 to April 2022, before some reshoots in November 2022.

Netflix has now announced Extraction 2’s release date – it will arrive on the streaming service on June 16.

Extraction 2 cast: Who’s joining Chris Hemsworth in Extraction 2?

Now that Extraction 2 is only a few months away, some details have been revealed about the casting.

As mentioned, Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake and he’ll be joined by Golshifteh Farahani as Tyler’s partner Nik Khan and Adam Bessa as Nik’s brother Yaz. It’s unclear if Rudhraksh Jaiswal will be back as Ovi, but we doubt it.

Newcomers for the sequel include Daniel Bernhardt as a character named Constantin, Olga Kurylenko as Mia and Tinatin Dalakishvili as Ketevan. It’s also rumoured that Chris Hemsworth’s stunt double, Justin Howell, has an acting role in the movie.

Extraction 2 plot: What will Extraction 2 be about?

Along with the TUDUM teasers, we’ve got the first official synopsis for Extraction 2 which teases another dangerous mission for Tyler Rake (obviously).

“After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back [and] tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held,” it reads.

We imagine that the sequel will largely be unconnected to the first movie, as the only thing to resolve was whether or not Tyler was alive. We know that he is, so there’s nothing else to really connect the sequel to the first movie.

Joe Russo has even been saying that Extraction 2 is “very different” from Extraction and is “its own movie”.

“It has a different colour schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one,” he explained.

“And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time.”

Extraction 2 trailer: Any Extraction 2 footage yet?

Back in September 2021, Netflix released a teaser as part of its TUDUM event.

It was mostly just footage from the bloody climax of the first movie, although it did show Tyler Rake waking up after his plunge into the river, swimming to the surface.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out below:

During Netflix’s TUDUM event in September 2022, we got another look at Extraction 2 with a behind-the-scenes featurette.

It was again light on actual movie footage, but it did tease some of the huge action sequences set to be featured in the sequel.

“There’s a moment when you say to yourself it can’t be done, but instead of backing down, you push yourself forward into the unknown,” Hemsworth explains in the clip, with Hargrave promising “at least twice the action”.

Check it out below:

Now that a June release date has been announced, Netflix has finally dropped a full trailer for us to see.

It opens with Rake taking on, well, just about everyone, as he attempts to rescue a woman from a riot outside a prison, but then there are flashbacks to his recovery following the events of the original Extraction. Then it’s back to the action with Rake proving that he’s still a tough guy as he thumps everyone around him – while his arm is on fire. Oh, and then he takes down a helicopter while standing on a moving train.

Is there anything this guy can’t do?

Extraction is available to watch now on Netflix. Extraction 2 will be released on Netflix on June 16.
