In-form Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has revealed that Super Eagles legend Vincent Enyeama played an important role in his goalkeeping career.
Enyeama was one of the best goalkeepers during his active time in the national team in a career that stretched for over a decade before calling a quit on international duties in 2015.
He won the 2013 African Cup of Nations title with Nigeria under late former Super Eagles gaffer Stephen Keshi and represented the national team in three World Cup tournaments.
Enyeama enjoyed an incredible spell with French Ligue 1 outfit Lille which Mendy has disclosed gave him the confidence.
Mendy has played a crucial role in Chelsea’s Champions League pursuit this season; helping the team to a third final in the competition history.
“You get to a point when you are not sure if you have made the right career choice. “I was at that point, but, seeing a fellow African like Enyeama doing it regularly at a the top level in Ligue 1 got me moving.”
Meanwhile, Mendy and his teammates at Chelsea are currently occupying third position on the Premier League table and will face Manchester City in the Champions League final. On Saturday, May 8, the Blues came back from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in League game.
