Elon Musk, the Tesla, and SpaceX CEO has alleged that Sundar Pichai-run Google is interfering in the 2024 US Elections and has warned the tech giant that the company is going to face “a lot of trouble”.
The X owner, on his social media platform, posted a screenshot of a Google search as evidence for the alleged election interference. In it, a search for “President Donald” can be seen bringing up results, including “President Donald Duck” and “President Donald Regan” but not Donald Trump.
Posting the screenshot, Musk wrote, “Wow, Google has a search ban on President Donald Trump! Election interference?”
Replying to a user’s comment on his post, he further said, “They’re getting themselves into a lot of trouble if they interfere with the election.”
Mixed reactions to Musk’s post
Musk, who in his rights is a controversial figure, has triggered mixed reactions to his post.
People left comments like “Google is owned by Democrats,” and “Democrats CANNOT win without interfering and cheating in every election”.
A third user falsely reiterated Trump’s claim that he had won the 2020 US elections and said, “They don’t even hide it anymore. Not sure who needs to hear this but TRUMP WON IN 2020 TOO.”
On the other hand, some users slammed Musk and questioned him, “And you have a search ban on so many accounts you don’t like. What’s the difference?”.
Some users have meanwhile jumped in with their support for “President Donald Duck”. One user wrote, “President Donald Duck sounds good ngl”.
A Google search by WION for the keywords “President Donald” had “President Donald Trump” among its results. However, as per an X user, the search limitation for results related to Trump are only valid for the US.
“Interesting, via Canada it is correct (screenshot below). VPN to US, same results as you: ‘president Donald Duck’,” said the user woonomic.
However, a WION search using a US location VPN had “President Donald Trump” among its results.
