Arrest of Mr. Le Viet Chu, former Secretary of Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee.
On March 27, 2024, the Police Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security (C03) issued a Decision to prosecute the accused, a Detention Warrant, and a Search Warrant against Mr. Le Viet Chu, former Vice Chairman, former Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Committee of Oc Ngai.
According to the investigating agency, Mr. Le Viet Chu was arrested for the crime of “Receiving bribes”, stipulated in Clause 4, Article 354 of the Penal Code.
The Police Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security determined: During the performance of the task, the defendant Le Viet Chu received money from Nguyen Van Hau to facilitate Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company to win the bidding package “Construction of the main line of the project on the south bank of Tra Khuc River, Quang Ngai province”.
Around 20:00 p.m. on March 27, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence of former Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee Le Viet Chu.
Mr. Le Viet Chu is the 6th former official of Quang Ngai province to be arrested in the case involving Hau “Phao”. Earlier, Mr. Dang Van Minh, Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee and Mr. Cao Khoa, former Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and 3 people who were former deputy directors and heads of departmental departments of this locality were also detained.
Mr. Le Viet Chu (61 years old, from Hanh Thinh commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai). He served as Secretary of Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee for the term 2015-2020. Prior to serving as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Chu held the positions of Director of the Department of Transport, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai Province, Secretary of the Party Committee of Quang Ngai, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Committee of Quang Ngai.
On May 3, 2020, the Central Inspection Committee issued a statement on the 44th session and Mr. Le Viet Chu was determined that “there have been many serious violations and defects in leadership, direction and implementation of management, land use, budget finance, investment projects and cadre work”, adversely affect the prestige of the commissars and local authorities, to the point that disciplinary action must be considered.
On June 16, 2020, the Politburo disciplined Mr. Le Viet Chu in the form of a warning. Then, on June 23, 2020, Mr. Le Viet Chu submitted his resignation as Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.
