Nigerian musician, Femi Kuti has taken to social media to celebrate his late father, Fela Kuti, on his 24th posthumous birthday today, October 15.
The Afrobeat legend, who is regarded as the pioneer of Afrobeat in Nigeria, would have turned 83 today if he were still alive.
His son in an Instagram post celebrated him and noted that he’s still missed even though he’s been gone for 24 years.
Sharing an old photo of Fela, he wrote,
“HPBD to our father FELA
Wow 24 years gone and we still miss you so much.
We love you”

The legendary entertainer reportedly died of AIDS-related complications on August 2, 1997, in Lagos, according to his brother, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti. However, Fela’s widow maintained that he did not die of AIDS.
It was gathered that roughly 1 million people attended his funeral procession which began at Tafawa Balewa Square and ended at his home in Ikeja, Nigeria, where he was laid to rest in the front yard.
