Shatu Garko from Kano crowned Miss Nigeria 2021.
Since the event began in 1957, Shatu Garko, an 18-year-old model from Kano State, has been awarded Miss Nigeria, making her the first Hijab-wearing winner.
She won the beauty pageant on Friday night at the Landmark Centre in Lagos after defeating 17 other finalists.
About 1,000 ladies had entered the competition before they were whittled down to 18.
Garko succeeded Etsanyi Tukura, a Taraba State native who had won the 2019 contest. Because of COVID-19, there was no contest last year.
The contest’s first runner-up was Nicole Ikot, while the second runner-up was Kasarachi Okoro.
“My whole life I have always wanted to be a Miss Nigeria. I’d like to thank Miss Nigeria and its sponsors. I would also like to thank my mum for supporting and loving me.”
