Ikoyi Club hosts EKEDC table tennis tournament

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has commenced its maiden table tennis tournament at the Ikoyi Club in 1938.

The competition, divided into Premiership, Championship, and Veteran categories, according to EKEDC, is focused on promoting the development of table tennis in the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the tournament, EKEDC’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Godwin Idemudia, said the part of his company’s efforts in encouraging table tennis as a sport for physical fitness and mental wellness.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Table Tennis Section, Ikoyi Club 1938, Soji Aladesuru, who declared the tournament open, expressed his gratitude to EKEDC for their strong commitment to giving back to the community through different corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and interventions.

He added that the sponsorship of the maiden table tennis championship is coming at a time when the promotion of indoor sports and activities has also become important in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aladesuru also appreciated members of staff of the company, for the quality of the organisation and coordination.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony of the tournament, the MD/CEO, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Adeoye Fadeyibi, expressed his delight at the organisation of the tournament.

He appreciated members of the table tennis section of the Ikoyi Club in 1938 for their cooperation and called for even more collaboration in the development of indoor sports in Nigeria.

Fadeyibi, who is also one of the players at the tournament, on Monday qualified for the second round in the Championship category by beating S. Shaibu in the first round.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Ikoyi Club 1938, management, and staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company. The Company also provided a customer care helpdesk to attend to customers, resolve complaints and provide information on the EKEDC’s products and services.

The tournament will end tomorrow with the presentation of trophies and prizes to the winners in each of the four main categories.
