Millwall are in talks about signing Birmingham City’s midfield dynamo Maikel Kieftenbeld on a permanent deal before the transfer window closes.
Gary Rowett is looking to bolster his midfield and has first hand experience of Kieftenbeld’s destructive qualities having taken him to St Andrew’s in the summer of 2015.
Indeed Rowett spent around £180,000 on a player who has gone on to make 183 appearances and a complete comeback from a serious knee injury.
Not only that Kieftenbeld has twice proved himself to managers who looked to move him on, first when Harry Redknapp looked to sell him to Derby, only for a paperwork hitch to extend his Blues career by at least another three years.
And just last summer Aitor Karanka was happy for him to leave only to recall him into the team when Blues were short of energy in the middle of the park.
Indeed Kieftenbeld has worked his way back to being a regular starter alongside Ivan Sunjic. It is not clear whether Karanka now wants to keep him for the remainder of the season.
However, Blues have this week brought Rekeem Harper in on loan from West Bromwich Albion and Millwall will recognise the fact the Dutchman has only six months left on his existing contract.
