Bafana Bafana striker, Percy Tau, has insisted that the team is battle ready for Friday’s crucial clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, despite their late arrival in Uyo.
Hugo Broos’ men arrived in Uyo on Thursday morning after their chartered aircraft was delayed for around five hours at the OR Thambo Airport on Wednesday.
Tau, who plays for Egyptian club, Al Ahly, stated that the players are firmly focused on the task ahead.
“This is Africa, so we know what it’s like traveling and playing. It is never easy, but we are professionals, we are ready, and we are hungry to play. This is all that we are here for,” he was quoted by Safa.net.
Bafana Bafana defeated the Super Eagles 2-0 the last time both teams met at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on June 10, 2017.
Tau and Tokelo Rantie scored the goals for South Africa on the night.
The former Brighton star stated that he is not desperate to score against the Super Eagles again.
“Yeah, I scored that time, which is good for me and the team, but that’s no reason to expect that I must score on Friday,” Tau added.
“What’s important is for the team to play well and whoever scores is good for us.
“Every game is a new game, and we approach it as it comes. But if I get the chance [to score], why not?”
