Woman Who Married Herself Divorces After One Year of Sologamy

A woman who made headlines for marrying herself has ended the union after just one year. In 2023, Suellen Carey, a 36-year-old originally from Brazil but now living in London, made waves with her decision to engage in sologamy—marrying oneself.

However, after a year, Carey has decided to call it quits. As reported by Mirror, she sought therapy to work through issues within her self-marriage but ultimately realized it wasn’t working. Reflecting on her journey, she explained, “Self-reflection and analysis are vital. It’s important to know when a cycle needs to end. Even a commitment to oneself comes with challenges, like the pressure of trying to be perfect for yourself. That pressure often left me feeling drained.”

Carey admitted that at times she felt lonely and described her self-marriage as mentally exhausting. Despite this, she sees the experience as a part of her healing journey and personal growth. Now, she feels ready to move forward, saying, “My sologamous marriage helped me heal and grow, but I now understand that growth can take us in new directions. I’m ready to explore new possibilities, including opening my heart to finding a partner.”
