‘Rohr needs to shut up and do the work of his contract’- Sports Minister, Sunday Dare blasts Super Eagles coach

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has blasted Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr over his ”unfair treatment” of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), urging him to focus on doing his work.

Since he took his role as the head coach, Rohr has been heavily criticized for not inviting home based players to the national team.

Rohr, 68 has relied mostly foreign players since he took charge as Nigeria’s national team coach and recently criticized the home based team that will face Mexico in an international friendly at the Los Angeles Coliseum this weekend.

Austin Eguavoen will be in charge of the home based team not Rohr and the Sports Minister has expressed his disappointment.

Rohr signed a new two-year contract last year, and part of the conditions in the deal is for him to include more domestic players in his plan.

But so far, only Enyimba’s Anayo Iwuala has played a part in recent Super Eagles games, with Rohr saying all of Nigeria’s best players are in Europe.

Dare expressed his disappointment with Rohr after he visited the home-based players at their Abuja camp ahead of the trip to the United States.

Dare urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to talk with Rohr regarding his behavior towards NPFL players.

“Rohr’s attitude towards home-based players is unacceptable, it’s negative to our football development & I call on the NFF to call him (Rohr) to order,” Dare said.

“Rohr needs to shut up and do the work of his contract, he talks too much,” Dare concluded.
