Reckless drivers kill six in Ogun multiple

It was gathered that the first accident occurred on Friday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and claimed two lives, while the second occurred on Saturday at Lafenwa, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the crashes in a statement on Saturday, said six persons lost their lives.

Okpe explained that the first accident involved a Volvo truck with the number plate, RBH 420 XA, and a Nissan cabstar, marked YYY 486 XB.

According to Okpe, a total of six persons were involved in the first accident, adding that while two died, two others were injured.

She blamed the accident on route violation and dangerous driving.

Okpe further said the second accident, which occurred on Friday night, involved three vehicles: a tanker with the number plate, T 15321 LA; a BMW car, marked TTD 421 CX, and a Nissan SUV with no number plate.

She noted that four persons were killed in the crash.

According to her, the driver of the tanker, which was fully loaded with petrol, lost control while trying to make a turning at the Lafenwa Roundabout.

Okpe said the accident happened due to speed and reckless driving on the part of the tanker driver.

“The tanker driver was trying to make a turning at the roundabout at Lafenwa and rammed into two other vehicles.

“The driver then lost control and rammed into a building. The content was spilled, but no fire incident.

“The content was quickly trans-loaded into another truck with the help of fire service and other traffic managers,” she added.
