Man Utd contact Palmeiras over transfer for Colombia Copa America star Richard Rios as Erik ten Hag’s squad revamp continues

Manchester United have reportedly contacted Brazilian side Palmeiras over a move for Richard Rios who impressed for Colombia at the Copa America.

Rios impressed for Colombia at Copa America, Manchester United interested in midfielder, The Red Devils are preparing bid worth £17m/$21.9m to sign the Colombian.

Colombia were the surprise package at the Copa America in the United States as they reached the final of the prestigious tournament, however, they lost in heartbreak fashion to an extra-time winner from Lautaro Martinez. Regardless, Nestor Lorenzo’s players like Rios among others caught the eyes of multiple top clubs with a summer move in mind.

Manchester United are one such club that have been impressed by the 24-year-old and sources have relayed to GOAL Brazil that the Red Devils have already made first contact with Palmeiras to discuss a potential summer move for the central midfielder. The sources have suggested that Erik ten Hag’s side are preparing a £17 million ($21.9m) bid for the Colombian as the Dutchman and INEOS have planned a squad overhaul following a poor 2023/24 season.

The source has also suggested that Palmeiras are not planning to budge easily despite knowing the value the midfielder holds in the eyes of multiple European giants with AC Milan also reported to be interested in the talented player. The Alviverde do not want to lose such a key player in the middle of the season and are reportedly not open to negotiating.

Earlier in the month, Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira was very clear that the club does not need to make any more sales following the sales of players like Estevao Willian to Chelsea, Luis Guilherme to West Ham and Endrick to Real Madrid. He told the media: “We’ve already made a lot of money from sales. Now, we need to focus on alternatives within the field.”

It is very likely that Palmeiras will try their best to keep Rios at Allianz Parque for at least the end of this season, however, the Red Devils’ significant purchasing power could potentially play a major part in bringing him to Old Trafford this summer.
