A Nigerian man, Akerele Oluwasogo, has narrated how he met his old schoolmate hustling as a keke (tricycle) rider in Lagos state.
The young lad in a post on his LinkedIn page, said a keke man hit his car on the streets and he noticed that the driver of the keke was his old classmate.
He revealed that after the accident, just as he angrily came down to check how bad it was, the driver turned out to be a known face.
They got talking and in the course of their discussion, the driver said he is ashamed that he is riding keke to make ends meet and his friend is looking so fresh in his car.
Akerele said encouraging words to him and took him out for lunch and they exchanged numbers. After catching up, he gave his old classmate some cash.
He wrote; ”I saw an old secondary school mate yesterday at Allen, Lagos State,
He was the driver of the keke (Tricycle) that bashed my car
I came down from the car angrily to check what happened
It turn out to be an old school mate,
I recognized him immediately
We got talking and laughing and he said: “Oju ntimi” (I am ashamed).
I asked why?
He said: “mo wa keke” (I am driving Tricycle)
I told him: “Mo ko Excel (I am teaching Microsoft Excel)
He looked at me and said: “iwo fresh na” (you are fresh na)
I looked at him back and said: ”You’re not looking bad too
Then he smiled…
We exchanged numbers.
I took him for lunch at Chicken Republic at Opebi Link road, asked how much he would have made within that time I’ve interrupted his job for lunch and he told me.
I gave him some cash, He was shocked. Hugged him well, and bade him farewell.
I may not see him in a long while.
But we will speak on the phone.
Life is easy. Put a smile on people’s faces.
Even if you know you are probably richer than someone, don’t rub it in, make them feel better in their situation.
Do NOT be ashamed of your hustle.
If you go broke, no one will feed you.
Take pride in whatever puts food in your mouth.”
