Joker: Folie à deux, which takes its title from a psychiatric phenomenon of shared psychosis, will take place in part within the grounds of Arkham Prison, where the supervillains of the DC Universe are imprisoned.
Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2019 for Joker, is back. He plays opposite Lady Gaga, the new Harley Quinn actress after Margot Robbie in The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey.
Extreme violence and frontal nudity
Directed like the first installment by Todd Phillips (the Very Bad Trip trilogy), Joker: Folie à deux is set in a different universe than the other DC films and will offer a darker and more violent version of the main figures of this universe.
According to U.S. media, Joker 2 has been rated “R-rated”, meaning that unaccompanied spectators under the age of 17 are not allowed. The reasons given: “extreme violence, rudeness, sexuality and frontal nudity.”
Joker: Folie à deux, the only DC movie of 2024, will be released on October 2. A huge success in 2019, Joker raked in $1.07 billion at the global box office before garnering eleven Oscar nominations (and two statuettes).
