IPOB’s sit-at-home : Absentee workers will forfeit August salary- Anambra state govt threatens workers

The Anambra state government has threatened to withhold the August salary of any of its workers who fail to show up at work on Monday, August 9 because of the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

This was contained in a circular to the heads of all the Ministries and parastatals by the Head of Service HOS, Harry Uduh. The circular directed all Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries to monitor compliance in the State and report back

”The Government of Anambra State has directed that all workers in the State must attend to their duties on Monday 9th August 2021 as failure to do so will result in severe sanctions including loss of Salary for the month of August.

All Hon. Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries are to monitor and report compliance please. Kindly give this information the widest publicity in your Establishment” the circular read

Residents of the state have been gripped with fear since the secessionist group announced the sit-at-home order to protest the detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Many of the state residents have said they would be staying at home to avoid any attack from members of the group.

However, the state police command has dismissed reports of any attacks from the group, saying efforts will be made to ensure the safety of everyone.
