Technology and medical experts have emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace telemedicine offering, saying, using technology for medical healthcare services reduces unnecessary non-urgent emergency room (ER) visits and eliminates preventives expenses for regular checkups.
The experts spoke at the launch of DoktorConnect, a digital application that provides a platform for anyone, anywhere, and at any time to access instant medical expertise that is accurate, trustworthy, relevant, and actionable.
Specifically, World Health Organisation Nigeria Country Representative (WR), Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, who was represented by the State Coordinator, Dr. Sam Yenyi, in his keynote speech, stated that telemedicine is the future of health delivery and is most certainly a major tool to achieve universal health coverage towards reaching the vision of ‘leaving no one behind’.
He noted that above and beyond this, telemedicine would potentially improve collaborative learning across health professionals and ultimately impact positively on the quality of healthcare, even in the remote corners of the world.
On his part, CEO of Josmol, the company behind DoktorConnect, Dr. Joseph Olowe believed that everyone should have instant and affordable access to healthcare irrespective of their geographical location, hence the effort to bring to Nigeria the latest technology to help drive a healthier nation.
