Chelsea pip Real Madrid to set up all-English Champions League final

Chelsea qualified for this season’s UEFA Champions League Final after defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in Wednesday’s second leg semi-finals at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues made it through 3-1 on aggregate as goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount condemned the Spanish giants to defeat after being held 1-1 in the first leg.

Chelsea have now made it to their third final in the competition history and first final appearance since 2012 when they beat Bayern Munich on penalties to lift their first title.

Thomas Tuchel’s men will slug it out with English Premier League rivals Manchester City, who progressed at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Werner, who earlier had a goal disallowed for offside, headed the Blues ahead on 28 minutes after Kai Havertz’s chip rebounded off the bar.

And with five minutes left Mount doubled Chelsea’s lead after tapping in from close range off Christian Pulisic cross.

Before the final between Chelsea and Manchester City, both club will get the chance to test their mettle in an all important Premier League fixture on Saturday.

The Europa League final could also feature two English sides as Arsenal and Manchester United play the second leg of their semi-finals against Villarreal and Roma respectively on Thursday.
