Grammy award winning gospel rapper,Lecrae, has christened himself a combination of Yoruba and Igbo names after discovering that his ancestors came from Nigeria.
The ‘Jireh’ singer took to hisInstagram page on Friday, December 16, to announce his new Nigerian names after visiting Nigeria for a gospel concert.
According to him, he conducted a DNA test and found out that his ancestors were brought to the United States from Nigeria. He added that he experienced love and kindness like no other while in Nigeria.
Posting photos of himself in a Nigerian traditional outfit, Lecrae wrote,
“First time in Nigeria. My DNA test confirms this is one of the countries my ancestors were brought from. I have experienced love like none other. Care, kindness, grace, and love.
I came here as LECRAE.
But my Nigerian name is
Adewale Obinna.”
A while back, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, revealed that she is 43% Nigerian.
The former American actress made this known in the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes, where she opened up about her genetic heritage and expressed a desire to know more about her roots.
